Alpakoland near Margonin - a walk with alpacas and horse rides

Walking an alpaca on a lead, past a field of grain and along a forest path: that is how we remember Alpakoland. In July 2019 we went on a day trip to Alpakoland in Klotyldzin near Margonin, about 76 km north of Poznań in western Poland. We spent about two hours there with a guide who took us around the whole farm.

Alpakoland is an educational farm with an alpaca herd and other farm animals, a few kilometres from Margonin. You can only visit with a guide, and you need to book in advance.

Feeding the alpacas in the barn

We started in the barn, where the alpacas waited in their pens. The guide brought a basket of feed and the kids fed the alpacas straight from their hands. The alpacas came very close, so we could take a good look at their fluffy fringes and big eyes.

Fun fact: alpacas come from the Andes in South America and are smaller cousins of llamas. An adult alpaca weighs about 65-80 kg, while a llama can weigh up to 150 kg.

A walk with alpacas through fields and forest

First the kids learned to lead the alpacas on a lead in the indoor arena, and then we set off on a walk with them. We followed a road along a field of ripe grain, crossed a meadow and walked along a forest path, about 25 minutes in total. Each child led their own alpaca, and the alpacas kept stopping to nibble the grass.

The alpacas were calm and patient, so they let the kids hug them and posed for photos.

Horses, a donkey and ponies

Back at the farm, more animals were waiting for us. The kids brushed a white pony, and then it was time to ride. The staff led the horses, and the kids sat on a big black horse, a light-coloured horse and a shaggy donkey. At the end, the parents had a ride too.

The youngest also had a ride on a small saddled pony, led by the guide.

Baby goats, a pig and alpacas with their young

The farm also has goats, sheep, rabbits and pigs. We could pick up the baby goats, and the kids also tried "milking" a model cow.

At the end we looked into the tent with the alpaca herd and visited the paddock where alpacas grazed with their young. The kids fed them from their hands once more.

After two hours we drove back home. You can find more places with animals that we visited in Poland in our post Kurozwęki - Buffalos and corn maze and in our guide Poland with kids.
