We left Klenovica heading north and ended up at a campsite just outside Zagreb. An artificial lake, rented kayaks and a quiet evening by the water – that’s how we closed our Croatian chapter.

Turquoise water, cascades tumbling between sixteen lakes, and wooden boardwalks winding above the surface. Plitvice Lakes are views you don’t forget in a hurry – even if you have to share them with crowds of tourists.

Krka National Park is one of those places that makes an impression from the first moment. Wooden boardwalks lead you literally across the water, between cascades and reed islands. And back in 2017 you could still jump straight into the waterfall.

A chance reunion with Ania’s cousin, ten degrees cooler than Albania, and one of the best-preserved medieval port towns on the Adriatic. We stopped in Trogir for a few hours – and it was hard to leave.
