Trips With Kids

East Jutland

On the 5th day of our summer road trip around Denmark we started our day with a great time spent together with the kids on the playground at Skagen Camping. The kids wanted to spend every minute having fun. After breakfast we hit the road and drove north to Cape Grenen – incredible nature wonder where two seas meet each other and don’t mix their waters. The fighting of the waves is an amazing sight.

Skagen

Morning was very sunny so our walk along the beach (about 2 km long) went well. On the way back we took the special red tractors to get back to the parking. A few minutes later, when we were in the car driving south, it began to rain.

That was the reason we needed to change our plans. We wanted to see old district of Aarhus – Den Gamle By. It shows how people lived in past centuries. Because of the rain, we needed to schedule that visit for the future.

We found an alternative thing to do. We found an Ikea store in the suburbs of Aarhus. That’s how we combined waiting for the sun with eating dinner. The meals were the same as in Poland. Prices were definitely lower than in other restaurants.

Weather changed that day very fast. Once it was sunny, then rain, then the sun came out again.

The highest point of Denmark – Ejer Bavnehøj

We left the highway to explore the highest point in Denmark. It is called Ejer Bavnehøj. It is the highest natural hill in the whole country. Later we discovered that it actually isn’t, because it is the third highest, but this one was the easiest to access. There is a 13-meter-high tower built in 1924. You can go to the top by internal stairs and enjoy a beautiful view from there. People used this place in the past to watch for enemies.
Two other points that are higher than this one are located in a forest and in the center of a farm. This one was chosen as more representative.

We drove further south and turned near Fredericia to the Trelde Næs peninsula. Our next campsite was located there. The kids chose the one with an open-air pool area. Having learned from Skagen, where the water got cold because of the sunset, we decided to go swimming next day morning.

MyCamp Trelde Naes Camping

The camping we chose is named MyCamp Trelde Naes. It is located on the top of peninsula. On the edges there were cliffs with stairs that allowed you to go down to the sea shore. There was a lot of seaweed in the water, so swimming in the sea was not recommended. Another reason that swimming was not a good idea was that there were a lot of crabs in the water.

There was a bridge where a family from Germany was hunting for crabs. It was very interesting to look at that. We can’t see anything like this in Poland, because we don’t have crabs in our part of the sea.

Next we enjoyed the playground until sunset. When it got dark we went to the bathroom and we went to sleep in our tent.
