Teplice Rocks with kids - the first day of our 2020 summer trip
How long is the walk around Teplice Rocks? The loop is about 6 km long and follows the blue trail between sandstone towers. On the way you can climb up to the rock castle Střmen. We did it with four kids in the drizzle, on the first stage of our 2020 summer holiday. We started in the rain and finished with a plan for the next rock towns.
Summer 2020: Czechia and Poland instead of Greece
For summer 2020 we were planning Greece, with a house with a pool booked back in December, before the pandemic. The pandemic changed those plans and we decided to stay closer to home. Luckily we got our deposit back, and the whole story is in our summary post. We chose regions we had not visited yet: the Czech rock towns, the Table Mountains, Silesia, the Jura, the Holy Cross Mountains and, at the end, Kashubia. The whole plan day by day is in our post Summer holidays in Poland with kids 2020.
We travelled in our golden Ford Tourneo Custom and slept in a tent at campsites. On this trip we also decided to collect points for the Mountain Tourist Badge.
Day one: an aquapark in Wroclaw instead of Mount Sleza
On Monday 3 August our first stop was supposed to be a hike up Mount Sleza. We had to change the plans, and since it was raining in Wroclaw, after 170 km we stopped at the Wroclaw Aquapark. Two hours on the pools and slides were a good start to the holiday on a rainy day. You can read what the climb up Sleza with kids looks like in our post Sleza Mountain with kids.
From Wroclaw we still had 105 km, about 2 hours 15 minutes of driving, to Teplice nad Metuji in Czechia. We stayed at Kamenec campsite, right in the town, about 1 km from the entrance to Teplice Rocks. The campsite has wooden cabins and a grassy field for tents next to them. We pitched the tent, had dinner, and in the evening the kids read books in their sleeping bags.

Teplice Rocks with kids
The next day, Tuesday 4 August, we went straight from the campsite to the trail. Teplice Rocks (Teplické skály) is a sandstone rock town, a neighbour of the better-known Adrspach. The trail leads through narrow passages between vertical walls, over stone slabs, wooden walkways and stairs.
The kids quickly found their own games. They looked for animal shapes in the rocks, and one rock was named "panda bear" straight away. They also asked why there are so many little holes in the rocks. The answer was simple: water carved them over thousands of years.

Stairs, crevices and echo
There were stairs waiting for us on the trail. The kids counted about 300 steps up and set off first. Along the trail there is also a path to the rock with the ruins of Střmen castle, reached by steel stairs and ladders.
Further on, the trail goes down into gorges where it is clearly cooler. The kids found a crevice that only they could fit into, and inside it was very windy. We did not go any further without a torch, but we still tested the echo.
After the walk we sat on the terrace of a small restaurant at the entrance to the rocks. Chips for everyone and a moment of rest under a roof.

Fun fact
In the deepest part of Teplice Rocks, in the Sibiř gorge, it is so cold that snow often lies there until summer. In the rock called "Chrám" (the Temple), between walls over 70 m high, a peregrine falcon nests.
The next day
The next day we went to the neighbouring rock town, which has a waterfall and a small lake with a boat: Adrspach with kids.
Practical info
We checked in November 2026.
- Trail: a loop of about 6 km, blue trail. With kids, plan half a day.
- Pushchair: the trail is not suitable for a pushchair because of the many stairs and narrow passages. It is better to carry a small child in a carrier.
- Tickets: a family ticket now costs 400 CZK online and 500 CZK at the ticket office. The online ticket is valid for 7 days.
- Parking: about 150 CZK per day. From Kamenec campsite you can walk.
- Weather: in the gorges it is cool and damp even in summer, so jackets and shoes with a good sole are useful.
- Accommodation: Kamenec campsite in Teplice nad Metuji, about 1 km from the trail entrance and about 4 km from Adrspach.
