In May 2018, we decided to make the most of the long May weekend and take the kids to Lake Garda in Italy. Instead of our usual tent, we tried something new – we rented a mobile home through Eurocamp at the Bella Italia campsite in Peschiera del Garda.
Eurocamp – A Mobile Home Instead of a Tent

Eurocamp turned out to be a great find. The mobile homes on campsites are really well equipped – a kitchenette with basic pots, pans, and cutlery, a bathroom with a shower, separate bedrooms, and a terrace for sitting outside. There is also air conditioning inside, which was a lifesaver on warm Italian days. No need to bring bedding or cooking gear, which makes a huge difference when you travel with four kids. It is much more comfortable than camping in a tent, yet you still get the campsite atmosphere.
What sold us? The price. A week in May costs about the same as a single day in August. How could we say no to that?
Bella Italia Campsite
Bella Italia is a large campsite right in Peschiera del Garda, on the southern shore of Lake Garda. Even though May is just the start of the season, the whole campsite was up and running. The swimming pools were open, shops were stocked, sports courts were ready, playgrounds were full of kids, and the restaurants served proper Italian food.
The weather was great – much warmer than back home in Poland at the same time. The kids could splash around in the pools and enjoy the sunshine while our friends back in Poland were still wearing jackets.
What We Explored
Peschiera del Garda turned out to be a perfect base for day trips. Its location on the southern end of Lake Garda opened up several great options.
We visited Sirmione – a scenic peninsula with the Scaligero Castle rising straight out of the water. Walking through the narrow streets with lake views all around was a real treat.
We also went to Gardaland – one of the biggest theme parks in Italy, just a short drive from the campsite. We spent the whole day on the rides, though a massive storm chased us away towards the end. We came back to the campsite soaked to the bone, but full of memories.
Our biggest trip was a day in Venice, about an hour and a half away by car. Walking through Venetian streets with a stroller turned out to be quite a challenge.
Summary
A week at Lake Garda in May was a great choice. Eurocamp worked perfectly as an alternative to tent camping – especially for a shorter trip when you do not want to pack all the gear. Peschiera del Garda as a base gave us easy access to amazing attractions, and the May weather let us enjoy campsite life to the fullest. If you are looking for a family holiday with kids – Lake Garda in May is well worth considering.
