Near Ksamil, next to the border with Greece, there is a small archaeological settlement named Butrint.
This place is on the UNESCO list of endangered places.
In antiquity there was a settlement here. Later, the town developed into an important religious center and port town. Its importance contributed to many battles during which the city was ravaged many times.
Today we can find there the ruins of defensive walls, an ancient Greek theater, ruins of houses, a baptistry, ruins of Roman baths and a chapel. There is also a fragment of the Venetian castle.
The entire facility is fenced and the entrance is ticketed.
At the entrance, we get a map of the area and leaflets in various languages (including Polish). At individual stands there are information boards that present a description of a given place.
