The territories of Poland, Lithuania and Russia (the Kaliningrad Region) meet in one place. It is located near the village of Bolcie near Wiżajny, not far from road no. 651 (Wiżajny - Żytkiejmy), on the Polish side, and near Vištytis on the Lithuanian side. This point is marked with a granite pillar bearing the state...
We arrived at the northeastern edge of Poland. We drove to the Stańczyki village to explore the historic Stanczyki bridges, also called the Aqueducts of the Romincka Forest. Before coming to Stanczyki we passed the village of Kiepojcie. There is a much smaller and less famous bridge, but it is also worth seeing. Under the...
We had wanted to visit the Wolf’s Lair for a long time. When we were planning a summer holiday trip to eastern Poland, we finally decided to go there. We like fortifications, which you probably already know from previous posts. The Wolf’s Lair (in German: Wolfsschanze) is the former headquarters of Hitler and the High...
For the night we stayed near Buczyniec Ramp. There's a brand-new campsite, which was established during the revitalization of the site with an EU grant. Reconstruction took place in the years 2011 - 2015. We got there soon after the renovation. The ramp was opened in May 2015 after a two-year break. The Buczyniec ramp...
We heard about the “Nowa Holandia” (“New Holland”) Family Theme Park located in Elbląg a few weeks before arrival. We decided to include this place in our expedition plan through eastern Poland. We started our journey in the north of the country, first visiting Malbork, and even spent one day at the sea. Now, our route was going in...
After a morning visit to Malbork we went to the Baltic Sea coast, to Krynica Morska, located on the Vistula Spit. During our previous year's visit to Denmark we traveled along a spit near the towns of Hvide Sande and Thyborøn - there we were at Lyngvig Fyr lighthouse. In Krynica Morska there is also...
In the summer of 2015 we decided to visit eastern Poland. We started, however, further north. The first attraction was visiting the Gothic castle in Malbork. You can only visit Malbork Castle with a guide or an audio guide, and both are included in the ticket. The Historical Route covers the whole castle with its...
Międzyrzecz Fortified Region, commonly called the MFR, is a belt of fortifications built between 1934 and 1944 by the Germans in order to defend the eastern border. Barely a dozen kilometers from the border, the Germans planned to seal off the land between the Oder and the Warta. All the gaps between the lakes were...
Have you been kayaking with children? We have, many times. Taking the opportunity of being in the area of Międzyrzecz we went on a one-day trip on the Paklica river. We had already been kayaking on the Obra river, but we had not paddled this small river yet. The trail that we chose was described...
We had never been to the swimming pool in Zielona Góra, so we decided to change that. We planned the trip for a Friday afternoon to avoid the weekend crowds. The Recreation and Sports Facility is located on Sulechowska Street, at the Council of Europe Roundabout, right next to national road 32 and only about...
We knew for a long time that Wolsztyn is famous for its steam locomotives. It is home to the last working steam locomotive depot in Europe. Every year in May a parade of steam engines is held here and thousands of railway enthusiasts come to the town. We once attended the annual parade, but then,...
We spent Saturday afternoon at DELI Park - a family, educational and fun park. This park is located on the outskirts of Wielkopolski National Park near the Delicjusz restaurant, on national road No. 5 between Stęszew and Poznan. The park has many attractions for children. Among the vegetation (which is still growing), we can find:...
